‘Special One’ begins comeback trail
AC Boxing Promotions founder and promoter Immanuel “Imms” Moses has revealed that Namibian boxer Flame “Special One” Nangolo has already begun rebuilding his career following the most difficult setback of his professional boxing journey.
Nangolo suffered the first defeat of his career last month when he was knocked out by compatriot Martin Mukungu, a result that also saw him surrender his WBO Africa super featherweight title and unbeaten record.
Despite the disappointment, Moses confirmed to Sport Wrap yesterday that the boxer is in good spirits and has already taken the first steps towards a comeback.
“Flame Nangolo is doing very well.
“The most important thing after the fight was ensuring his health and safety, and we are pleased to confirm that he has completed all the required medical examinations, including MRI and MRA scans, and has been medically cleared,” said Moses.
Moses explained that Nangolo is currently observing the mandatory medical suspension period required after such a bout and is using the time to rest, recover and reflect before resuming full training.
No rush to return
As for a return to the ring, the promoter stressed that the team will not rush the process.
“We expect him back once he has completed the required suspension period and when the team is satisfied that he is physically and mentally ready. Our priority is his long-term career and overall well-being.”
Moses believes the defeat will ultimately strengthen Nangolo and has been encouraging the boxer to view the setback as part of a larger journey.
“As his promoter and mentor, my role is to remind him that one defeat does not define a fighter. Boxing history is filled with legendary champions who suffered setbacks and came back stronger.
“We constantly remind him of the achievements he has already accomplished and the goals that still lie ahead.”
The focus, Moses said, is now on learning from the loss, correcting mistakes, improving aspects of Nangolo’s game and rebuilding confidence through discipline and hard work.
“The way forward is to remain hungry and continue believing in the journey. We are already exploring future opportunities that will put him back in contention at the highest level.”
Moses remains confident that the talented boxer still has many successful years ahead of him.
“Flame is still young, talented and ambitious. We firmly believe that this chapter will be remembered as the beginning of a great comeback story rather than the end of one.”
He also reassured supporters that “Special One” Nangolo will return stronger and more motivated to continue making the country proud on the international boxing stage.
Gratitude and appeal for support
While reflecting on the event, AC Boxing Promotions and AC Boxing Academy expressed gratitude to the sponsors, partners and supporters who helped make the fight night possible.
“We would like to sincerely thank our main sponsor, the David Namwandi Trust, as well as our co-sponsors Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioners, Trustshield Insurance Brokers and Readibites Meat Market for their continued support of boxing development.”
Moses also thanked the boxing fans who bought tickets and the corporate partners who bought tables, contributing to what he described as one of the biggest and most talked-about boxing events staged locally.
Despite the success of the event, Moses acknowledged that the academy continues to face challenges in securing long-term sponsorship and financial backing.
He appealed to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, government leaders and other stakeholders to assist in strengthening sports development initiatives across the country.
“We also appeal to the sports ministry to explore ways of assisting boxing promoters and sports development organisations through funding and structured support programmes.
“Without meaningful government intervention, sport in Namibia risks suffering greatly in the future,” he said.
