Schools receive NEC invitations as race begins for Top Score championship

Twenty-four of Namibia’s most active sporting schools under the Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU) have received invitations to participate in the inaugural Top Score National Elite Championships (NEC), powered by Model Namibia and driven by Indongo Toyota. With only 18 places available, schools will compete to secure their positions in what is set to become one of the country’s premier school sporting events.To underline the significance of the NEC in advancing school sport in Namibia, the championship was officially launched on 17 June 2026 in the presence of Honourable Dino Ballotti, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture.A product of the Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU) and facilitated by Gravity Sport, the NEC has been created to provide an elite championship platform for Namibia’s top schools and athletes.The inaugural championship will feature competition in rugby, hockey, netball and football.Schools will compete across senior age groups from Under-14 to Under-19, showcasing the very best school sport talent from across the country during September 2026.More than just a tournament, the NEC is designed to celebrate sporting excellence, foster school pride and create opportunities for athletes to perform on a national stage. Participating schools will compete not only for championship honours, but also for the distinction of being recognised as Namibia’s Elite Sporting School.The NEC also forms part of a broader athlete development pathway through the FreshStop Namibia Desert Stallions programme, providing talented athletes with opportunities to progress beyond school sport and continue their sporting journeys at higher levels.Deputy Minister Honourable Dino Ballotti highlighted the Ministry’s support for the NEC and encouraged invited schools to participate in the national championship.As excitement builds towards the inaugural event, the Top Score National Elite Championships is poised to establish a new benchmark for school sport competition in Namibia.The championship is proudly powered by Model Namibia, driven by Indongo Toyota and facilitated by Gravity Sport, all committed to the future growth and success of Namibian sport.The public, school communities, athletes, parents and stakeholders are invited to view the official launch proceedings live on the NBC Sport YouTube channel.
