Kobus Reyneke is the 2026 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR86 Cup champion after beating Connor Weston by five points in a tense season finale at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday.The title marks an outstanding achievement for the Namibian teenager, who claimed the championship in his rookie season, his first year racing a saloon car and competing in the GR86 Cup.With track temperatures reaching 33°C, conditions were demanding for the drivers. Temperatures inside the cars can climb to 60°C, forcing competitors to race at high speed while wearing helmets and fireproof suits, with concentration and composure essential throughout.For Reyneke, however, the biggest challenge was not the heat but the pressure of a championship decider.Entering the final round with a three-point advantage over Weston, he knew the priority was to secure enough points to win the title rather than chase race victories at all costs.In both races, Reyneke followed Reagile “Spice” Mailula, who went on to win both outings.
