NCS tame the Lions
The much-anticipated match between Afrocat Lions and the Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) netball team took place on Saturday afternoon.
NCS emerged victorious after beating the Lions 38-30 in a tightly contested match at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College.
“The other team is really formidable and physical; however, we knew that coming in so we made it a point to prepare ourselves accordingly,” NCS coach Jerry Toi said.
He touched on an incident where the Afrocats coach Dimitri Bitler had to be excused from the court due to remarks and complaints, describing it as “unfortunate but normal” as he believes netball can become quite passionate.
When asked about his team’s performance, Bitler said: “It was a tight game, I think my team and I can go to the drawing board and fix a few things, but apart from that, it was a great game”.
He added that he was not happy with some of the calls the umpires made, and that they lacked consistency.
An Afrocat Lions player who plays as a centre and wing defense acknowledged that the team needs to improve on certain aspects if they are to go forward.
“Not everything went according to plan as we were planning on playing more short balls, but it did not work out. I do still believe we did our best,” she said.
