National qualifiers crucial prep for SA Champs
Rhythmic gymnastics
Rhythmic gymnastics from across the country were recently put through rigorous national qualifiers held by Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics (ERGC) and Parkies Rhythmic Gymnastics (PRG) in the capital.
Held at Windhoek Showgrounds, the Namibian Gymnastics Federation’s (NGF) showpiece served as the Second Qualifying Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition.
It brought together 330 gymnasts, ages four to 20, from nine clubs nationwide, who showcased their elegance on the floor through rope, hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon, for national honours.
Top gymnasts from Level 4 to High Performance were selected to represent the country at Gymnastics South Africa’s National Championships, previously known as Gym Games, to be held from 4 to 9 October in KwaZulu-Natal.
New SAGF Code of Points
Event organisers Eleonora Karamfilova of Elite and Uschi Bence of Parkies lauded the event’s success, which they said was especially fulfilling as gymnasts were tested on a newly introduced South African Gymnastics Federation (SAGF) Code of Points.
“[The change] marked a significant transition for coaches and athletes alike. Despite the challenges of adapting to the new standards, we noted visible improvement in performance and technical execution across the board,” organisers said.
They further extended gratitude to parents for also coming on board to help with the event, as they did more than just cheer athletes on from the sidelines.
“Heartfelt thanks also go out to our sponsors and supporters, who made the event possible. [And, of course,] congratulations are in order for the gymnasts for their hard work and inspiring performances.”
They also thanked the sponsors WV Manufacturing, Hemco Paints, African Shipping Services, Real Accounting Solutions, Trophäendienste, Bank BIC and Eva Shifotoka for making the event possible.
