Cricket Namibia’s “A” side has made a promising start competing in the six-team “Pearl of Africa” T20 series in Uganda’s capital Kampala.

Opening batsman JC Balt has led the team to two wins out of two so far – against Uganda “A” by just two runs last Thursday, before a more convincing win against Nigeria on Saturday.

On Thursday, Uganda “A” needed just two runs off the last two balls in the 20th over. Seam bowler Max Heingo and fielder Dylan Leicher combined to create a run-out, before Heingo trapped the next batsman leg-before wicket.

Earlier, Namibia’s total of 145 for six was built on Balt’s player-of-the-match performance of 48 off 41 balls, aided by fellow opener Zacheo Janse van Vuuren’s 43 off 42 balls in a partnership worth 78 runs. Dylan Leicher also helped the acceleration with 29 off 22 balls (1x4 2x6).

• On Saturday against Nigeria, the West Africans were bowled out in 19.0 overs for 111, before Namibia surpassed their total with 115/2 in 15.2 overs.

Balt (26 off 34 balls) and Van Vuuren (18 off 8, with four fours) made starts, but number three Handre Klazinga took over with 55 not out off 40 balls (four fours, two sixes) and Dylan Leicher was also unbeaten on 11 (15 balls).

Leicher secured the player of the match award with four wickets for 26 in four overs, while Max Heingo (3/25 in 4) was also outstanding.

• Namibia’s action resumes on Tuesday (09:00 Namibian time) against Kenya, before the rematches against Uganda A on Wednesday afternoon, Nigeria on Friday and Kenya on Saturday.
