Kudu secure home semi-final

Walvis Bay-based premier league rugby team, FNB Kudu, will play their Namibian Rugby Union (NRU) semi-final at home in the harbour town.This will be a first and came after the team secured a 10-0 victory against Western Suburbs.The Kudu premier league team will take on the University of Namibia (Unam) in one of the semi-finals while Wanderers will play Rehoboth in the other on 27 August.The Kudu reserve league team also managed to reach the semi-finals and will have to travel inland to secure a spot in the final clash.'Hard work, blood and sweat'Kudu worked as a unit and the players put their bodies on the line to ensure that their opponents, Western Suburbs, did not score, although various attempts were made in the fast-paced and very physical premier league game.Full back Aston Mukwilongo scored the first and only try for his team, with fly half Kyle Wentzel converting it.Inside centre Aurelio Plato sealed the deal for his team with a penalty in the second half.Team captain Cameron Langenhoven said it was a tough game. “Western Suburbs definitely came for us. Conditions weren’t perfect as it was quite windy, but at the end of the day, the hard work, blood and sweat pushed us through. "This game was a fight, but we came armed and ready and this was ultimately the difference between the two teams. It feels great to know we are making history. The job is not yet done, we still have a lot of playing to do.”Reserve league actionIn the reserve league, Kudu II managed to score a 41-7 victory against the visiting Western Suburbs.The try-scorers for the day were Lorenzo Groenewald (number eight), Gregory Namaseb (openside flanker, two tries), Clayton Camm (blindside flanker), Sheiton Besser (second row), Lorenzo Calaca (tighthead prop) and replacement Jarren Koning. Fly half Ulriato Lawrence converted three of the tries.Try-scorers for Western Suburbs were fly half Wyatt Brooks, while replacement Randell Ludwig converted the try.Ladies rugbyThe Kudu Bokkies also had a good day on the field. They recorded a 17-0 victory over the Okahandja Huskies. The try-scorers for the day were blindside flanker Emilin Marais, left wing Nesskenith Jansen and inside centre Kaune Mungunda. Jansen also converted one of the tries.Schools rugby PSG Walvis Bay Private School suffered a 10-8 loss against Windhoek Afrikaans Private School (WAP) in a Namibia Secondary Schools Rugby match played at Naartjie Park in Walvis Bay.The scorers were left wing Antua Klein, while captain and number eight Krynaun Bouwer converted a penalty. Try-scorers for WAP were fly half Tromp van der Merwe and left wing Andre Siepker.
