Kazapua apologises to Namibia

Kazapua, who allegedly left the camp with another player, was dropped from the Brave Warriors’ squad before their match against São Tomé and Príncipe on Tuesday.
Both players were omitted from coach Collin Benjamin’s team selection for the 3-0 win over the visitors in Botswana, where Peter Shalulile scored a hat-trick.
Initial reports alleged that the pair had sneaked out of camp to go clubbing in Francistown, Botswana. Kazapua, however, denied the claims, admitting instead that he had left camp to run personal errands.
“I would like to address the recent speculation surrounding my release from the Brave Warriors camp. “Firstly, I acknowledge that leaving the camp without clearance was not the appropriate course of action,” he said in a statement.
Kazapua went on to take responsibility for his actions and issued a heartfelt apology.
“I take full responsibility for this and accept the management team’s decision to release me. I have since personally apologised to the technical team and my teammates for any disappointment this may have caused. I would also like to extend my heartfelt apology to the Namibian nation,” he said.
The goalkeeper added that representing his country has been one of the greatest honours of his life and stressed that he does not take that responsibility lightly.
He also rejected speculation that he had been drinking or clubbing. “I must firmly clarify that the rumours suggesting I was out drinking or clubbing are completely false, I have always lived an alcohol-free life by choice and conviction, and that has never changed. My very brief absence from camp was to attend to a personal errand, and not for any reason being speculated on social media or elsewhere.” Kazapua reaffirmed his commitment to representing Namibia with pride, professionalism and integrity.
Kazapua began his Premier League career in 2011 with African Stars after impressing in the lower tiers of Namibian football. He played for the ‘Reds’ until 2013 before moving to Tigers FC, where his performances earned him a first national team call-up.
He returned to African Stars in 2015, spending three more years at the club before joining Highlands Park in South Africa. After a brief stint there, he played for Maccabi FC (2018–2019), Baroka FC (2019–2020), and Cape Umoya United before signing for Chippa United, where he has produced several memorable performances.
Kazapua was one of Namibia’s standout players at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and played a key role in the country’s qualification for the 2023 edition, particularly in the two fixtures against Cameroon in March 2023, where he was rock-solid in goal.
He conceded just three goals in five national team matches last year. Although he was Chippa United’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, he has since surrendered the number one jersey to Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali.
