Ghayouri secures second treble at schools event

St Paul’s College table tennis sensation Kamrouz Ghayouri (14) has once again impressed at the Arysteq and Simonis Storm Schools Tournament Series by clinching gold across three age categories last weekend.He first clinched three gold medals at the event in May from the same age categories.Held at the Wanderers Sports Hall in Windhoek, the fifth event in the series saw a turnout of over 60 players battling it out in the boys’ and girls’ sections across the U19, U17, U15, U13 and U11 age categories.Ghayouri’s treble came in the boys’ U19, U17 and U15 age categories. At his heels in the U19 category was Caden Bosman from Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS), who secured a silver medal.In third place to secure bronze medals were St Paul’s College’s Agape Chicalu and Jason Kadandara.Following Ghayouri in the U17 section was Bosman, recording a second silver medal at the event ahead of Silas Anguku of Hage Geingob High School and Chicalu, who claimed his second bronze medal.In the boys’ U15 age category, Ghayouri led the charge ahead of Fillemon Ikanda of Olof Palme Primary School and Kadandara, who recorded a second bronze medal alongside Pascal Eysselein of DHPS.The girls’ section also displayed outstanding performances in the U19 to U15 age categories.Girls U19: 1 Lian Gebauer (DHPS), 2 Justina Namupolo (Hage Geingob High School), 3 Faith Iiyambo (Khomastura High School), 3 Karolina Shigwedha (Ella Du Plessis High School).Girls U17: 1 Gebauer, 2 Namupolo, 3 Cadence Farmer (St Paul’s College), 3 Shigwedha.Girls U15: 1 Namupolo, 2 Shigwedha, 3 Farmer, 3 Iiyambo.Boys U13: 1 Ikanda, 2 Jack Bao (visitor), 3 Daniel Beukes (Orban Primary School), 3 Immanuel Hangula (St Paul’s College).Girls U13: 1 Esther Nelenge (Olof Palme Primary School), 2 Sylvi Ikanda (Hillside Primary School), 3 Hertha Pondjamba (Olof Palme Primary School), 3 Wilhelmina Shivute (Olof Palme Primary School).Boys U11: 1 Terence Kadandara (St Paul's College), 2 Kilian Beukes (St Joseph’s Primary School), 3 James Bampton (Elim Primary School, youngest player at age 5), 3 Tangi Haufiku (Olof Palme Primary School).Girls U11: 1 Nelenge, 2 Ikanda, 3 Shivute, 3 Sabina Shanika (Monte Christo Primary School).In a statement issued by the Namibia Table Tennis Federation (NTTA), series coordinator Theo Beukes said the event showcased competitive excellence, growing inclusivity and youth engagement.“The tournament welcomed its youngest-ever participants, five-year-old Christian Iita and seven-year-old Jayden Bampton, who showed great promise. Their presence is a testament to the success of development efforts targeting early-age engagement,” the statement read.Beukes also highlighted that there was an improved turnout in the girls’ section, which recorded a 40% participation rate above the 35% standard benchmark. “This demonstrates the tournament’s commitment to inclusivity and the positive impact on its sponsors.”The sixth and final tournament of this year’s series is scheduled for 20 September at the same venue.– mariud@nsh.com.na
