A new era in Namibian sport began today as the Namibian FootGolf Association officially launched FootGolf at the Windhoek Golf Club, introducing a novel blend of golf and football to the local sporting landscape.
Hon. Dino Balotti, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, and Culture, welcomed the sport with enthusiasm, highlighting its potential to contribute meaningfully to sport development in the country. He encouraged both the private sector and individuals to support the initiative and join the association, noting the role of inclusivity in shaping a more dynamic sports culture.
Mr. Norman Mphake, President and Chairperson of FootGolf South Africa and the African FootGolf Association, shared insights into the sport’s growing popularity across the continent. He emphasised FootGolf’s unique ability to bridge two major sporting codes, golf and football and spoke about the importance of sourcing locally made equipment tailored to Namibia’s conditions, including specialised playing balls.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where attendees were given the opportunity to try out the sport for themselves, officially marking the start of Namibia’s FootGolf journey.
