First National Bank Namibia yesterday announced a sponsorship of N$9.3 million towards the Women’s Super League for a period of three years.

The next season of Namibia’s highest women’s football league will start in January, with an increased amount in sponsorship.

The money will be divided into three seasons of Women’s Super League football.

FNB Namibia retail CEO Mbo Luvindao was thrilled that the bank was committing to women’s football once again.

Luvindao believes sponsorships of such nature are of great importance to ensure that the dreams of those who love sport do not perish.

Namibia Football Association interim secretary-general Cassius Moetie expressed gratitude towards the bank for the sponsorship.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to FNB for their commitment to sponsoring the top-tier Women’s Super League for the next three football seasons.

“Your investment of N$3 million per year is a testament to your dedication to growing women’s football in Namibia,” Moetie said.

The two parties agreed to commit a portion of the sponsorship funds towards transport for the clubs and the money will be disbursed in three different occasions of which the first will be 50% (N$220 000).

The second and third time the funds will be disbursed will be on a 25% basis which amounts to N$110 000 in each of the two occasions the money is being disbursed during a season.

“Worth-noting is that all the clubs will be required to compile and provide Substantive accountability reports and before each fund are disbursed to clubs, especially the second and third portions, the transfer of these funds are subject to the submission of accountability reports,” Moetie said.

The NFA secretary-general insisted that the reports are critically important for transparency, accountability, governance, compliance and ethical use of sponsored money.

The association further insist that the clubs provide the accountability reports in order to instil public and sponsors confidence and trust in their financial management.

“Accountability reports are nothing new for us at the Namibia Football Association.

“We receive funds from FIFA, CAF and the Government through the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture and we provide these reports as part of our administrative principles.

“We value the trust FNB placed in us and we assure you that every cent of your sponsorship will be utilized to develop and sustainably grow women’s football,” Moetie added.

The FNB Women’s Super League brings together 12 talented teams, vying for the trophy throughout the season.

First sponsorship

The bank came to the aid of women’s football in 2023 after committing to a sponsorship of N$7.5 million over a three-year period.

The three-year sponsorship was broken down into N$2.5 million per year which the league was using mostly for administration and prize money.

Last season

Beauties FC were crowned champions of the 2024-2025 season with an impressive unbeaten record in 22 matches, collecting 58 log points during that period.

The team’s remarkable unbeaten streak saw them winning N$250,000 in the process.

FC Ongos Ladies finished in second place, earning N$150,000, while African Stars Ladies walked away with N$100,000 for their efforts.

FC Ongos' goal machine, Memory Ngonda, won both Player of the Season and Top Scorer of the Season after netting 39 goals.
