Field archers excel in Lusaka

The Archery Association of Namibia is proud of the strong performance by its athletes, who brought home six continental medals from the Zambian capital Lusaka.

The Archery Association of Zambia hosted the 2025 African Regional Field Archery Championship at the scenic Shambololo Lodge, held from Thursday to Sunday.

Participating IFAA-affiliated countries included Namibia, South Africa, and the host nation Zambia. The championship course proved especially challenging for many archers, providing invaluable experience for future international competitions.

Gold medals

• Adult male freestyle unlimited: Jannie Meuwesen.

• Young adult male freestyle unlimited: Evan Meyer.

• Young adult female bowhunter unlimited: Eden Keyser.

Bronze medals

• Adult female freestyle unlimited: Bea Viviers.

• Team bowhunter unlimited: Stephan Meyer and Eden Keyser.

• Team freestyle unlimited: Jannie Meuwesen, Evan Meyer and Bea Viviers.

Every Namibian archer showcased exceptional skill and proudly represented the national colours.

Jannie Meuwesen posted on his social media: “I shot my bow so incredibly well, and I am so proud of my performance.

This championship took place on a range that is incredibly difficult to shoot. I managed to set two new course records on my way to the gold medal – in the field round (553 out of 560), hunter round (555/560) and animal round (560 out of 560).

“My equipment performed flawlessly under pressure. A massive thanks to my sponsors who make all these achievements possible.”

The Namibians expressed a heartfelt appreciation to Zambia for their warm hospitality. The camaraderie extended by Zambian archers made guests from Namibia and South Africa feel truly welcomed.
