Excitement builds for Capricorn Schools Netball League
Netball
The entertaining schools netball league is entering a crucial stage as the playoff round approaches.
The organisers of the Capricorn Schools Netball League have announced that the national playoffs for 2025 will take place in August.
The league, sponsored by Capricorn Group, has been in existence for nine years now.
It provides a platform for young netball talent to develop into top future stars of the nation.
“The Capricorn Schools Netball League is more than a series of netball games; it’s a launchpad for personal development, teamwork, and striving for greatness,” Marlize Horn of Capricorn Group said.
Horn added that the league has been growing from strength to strength, raising the standards of school netball.
This year’s competition is played by 85 teams from different public and private schools in the country.
The schools hail from Khomas, //Kharas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Oshikoto, Omaheke, and Erongo regions.
Backed by the Namibia Schools Sport Union (NSSU), the league welcomes players from age groups under-12 to U19, providing opportunities for growth, teamwork, and sporting excellence.
Training
To further strengthening the sport, the Capricorn Schools Netball League also presented a top-tier umpires course, training over 100 umpires under the guidance of Marielouw van der Merwe, a World Netball-sanctioned International Testing Panel (ITP) instructor from South Africa.
Capricorn Group paid for all the instructor costs, and more than 30 umpires was exposed to practical application during live Super League matches at Windhoek Gymnasium from 5 to 7 June.
The chairperson of the Capricorn Schools Netball League, Liezel Garbers, expressed satisfaction with the training.
“This training helps ensure fair and skilful officiating, enhancing the credibility of school netball in Namibia. We are inspired by the talent and dedication we’re seeing this season.
“The teams have shown extraordinary commitment, and we’re looking forward to an action-packed finale next month,” Garbers said.
