Eagles to host the Proteas in historic T20I

Cricket
Cricket Namibia and Cricket South Africa (CSA) have proudly announced a historic T20 International match between Namibia’s national men’s team, the FNB Eagles, and South Africa’s Proteas, set to take place in Windhoek on Saturday, 11 October 2025.

This much-anticipated match will mark the official opening of the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground, the brand-new home of cricket in Namibia.

The first-ever international match between the two sides will go down as a milestone moment in Namibian sport and for African cricket.

Not only is it the biggest cricket event ever hosted on Namibian soil, but it will also celebrate the opening of a world-class stadium that will soon welcome the world.

The FNB Namibia Cricket Ground is set to make history as it will host matches in both the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup – the very first time Namibia will host ICC World Cup matches.

Under the captaincy of Gerhard Erasmus, the Eagles have qualified for each of the last three ICC T20 World Cup tournaments held in the United Arab Emirates, Australia and the West Indies.

Cricket Namibia chief executive officer, Johan Müller, added: “This truly is a memorable occasion. The new FNB NCG has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialized.

“A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world class facility.”

“I want to thank CSA and specifically their CEO, Pholetsi Moseki, for agreeing to this match. We look forward to hosting the Proteas Men’s team and to partner with CSA in hosting the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2027.”

CSA Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki commented: “We are honoured to be part of this historic occasion. Namibia are a competitive side, and this fixture reflects the growing strength of cricket on the continent.

“As a fellow African cricketing nation and the host of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, we are proud to support the official opening of this new stadium which will be one of the host venues of the tournament.”

Cricket fans, families, and the Namibian public are warmly invited to come and be part of this once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Let’s show our pride and passion as the FNB Eagles take on the Proteas on home soil.
