Runners once again have an opportunity to race and keep fit as the Nedbank Citi Dash returns this weekend.
The City of Windhoek is set to come alive this weekend as the Nedbank Citi Dash takes centre stage in the capital.
The much-anticipated event will take place on Sunday at Windhoek High School’s Vegkop Stadium, with a strong field of athletes expected to test their mettle.
This will be the fifth edition of an event that has consistently provided runners with a platform to compete across different categories.
In a statement issued yesterday, Nedbank Namibia Chief Commercial Officer JG van Graan expressed excitement about the competition.
“This year, once again, we’ve ensured that we curate a running experience that can go head-to-head with some of the best on the continent.
As money experts who do good, we will continue to innovate and have upgraded the race to keep up with international running trends,” Van Graan said.
He added that while the race has been upgraded, its tradition remains the same.
“But we are keeping the Nedbank Citi Dash’s unique aura. From elite runners chasing fast times to families coming out to create memorable moments, there’s something for everyone.”
This year’s competition is returning with a “bold new twist” that the bank believes is already generating excitement among runners. The bank explained that there is a refreshed route with renewed emphasis on community and fitness, promising the event will be more dynamic and inclusive than ever before.
Categories on the day will include the 10 km elite men’s and women’s races as well as a 5 km fun run.
“Having quickly established itself as one of Namibia’s most cherished running events, the Nedbank Citi Dash continues to bring together people from all walks of life. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete chasing a personal best or a first-time runner soaking up the atmosphere, this event is designed to welcome everyone,” the statement read.
The 2025 Nedbank Citi Dash will also unveil the LiveXpo, a dynamic and interactive exhibition dedicated to health, sport, lifestyle and the outdoors. The expo will showcase and celebrate well-being, sustainability and community engagement.
“The LiveXpo will feature a diverse range of exhibitors, including PayToday, which recently relaunched with an enhanced user interface and upgraded security features, as well as Avo SuperShop, NHP, DStv, Namibian Traders, Nedbank Kapana and many others. The LiveXpo will be open to the public on 6–7 September,” the statement continued.
More than 2,400 runners have already been confirmed, and participants have been instructed to collect their race numbers on Saturday at Windhoek High School’s Vegkop Stadium between 11:00 and 16:00.
All races will start and finish at WHS Vegkop Stadium, with the new routes including heads, loops around Ausspannplatz, and returning via Independence Avenue, passing Zoo Park and continuing north.
The turnaround point for the 5 km race is marked near Pupkewitz Toyota.
“The 10 km runners will proceed to the Simon De Witt Bridge, turn around before the fire department, return towards Zoo Park and take a left turn up Fidel Castro Street to finish at the stadium.”
