The Brave Warriors’ local coach John Sikerete is adamant that the team will bounce back from their 0-1 defeat against the Comoros Islands.

The coach fielded a team selected from locally based clubs in an international friendly that was played in the island nation’s capital Moroni on Friday.

Namibia also fielded a different technical team behind the scenes.

“I am not that satisfied with the result, but I am actually happy that I saw the players in action and we now know what to expect from them.

“The match was not that bad, but they took their chances and managed to score a goal against us,” Sikerete said.

Team manager Congo Hindjou spoke about the importance of having locally based players get more international game time, as it serves as a preparation towards the future.

The former national team midfielder got his first taste of coaching the national team and is pleased with the opportunity presented to him.

“I reckon the future looks bright in terms of Namibian football, even though that we lost the match on the day.

“The team we assembled for this fixture was not bad at all and I am also happy for the opportunity given to me to coach this team.

“In my view the future of these young players looks bright and we just need to make sure they remain in the system,” Hindjou said.

Next chance

The Namibians still have a chance to prove themselves as they battle the Comoros Islands again in an international friendly at the same venue today.

Sikerete is optimistic that his team will pose a different challenge compared to the way they played on Friday.

Having assessed the players during Friday’s tour opener, Sikerete is relishing the rematch against the same opponents, hoping they will come out with all guns blazing.

“The good thing is that we have a second chance. I am sure the players will go into Monday’s match hoping to salvage something.

“Many of the players have not played with each other yet, but I am positive that some sort of understanding is developing among them.

“We are prepared for this fixture and ready to show that we are from the Land of the Brave,” the optimistic coach said.

Another member of the coaching staff, Marley Ngarizemo, also predicted a different outcome in today’s match.

Ngarizemo is aware of mistakes they made on Monday and expects his team to show some fight in their second fixture of the international break.

“We really do not have much to say, except to let the players prove their worth in this second match because we do need a positive result.

“The players have a second chance to prove that they can do better and we are not going to put any additional pressure on them.

“They just have to keep pushing and also maintain a positive mind-set, because they are the future of the national team,” Ngarizemo said.

The squad selected to the Comoros was based on assessments and availability, considering the absence of many of the country’s international professional players.
