The fifth leg of the National Karting Championship brought fast-paced action to the Tony Rust Race Track last weekend, with top contenders delivering clean sweeps and crucial wins across six competitive classes.

Hosted by the Windhoek Motor Club under the auspices of the Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMSF), the event featured young and experienced drivers across several age and engine categories, with heats raced over three rounds.

In the Direct Drive 2-speed (DD2) class, the fastest and most advanced division, Zain Beuthin stormed to victory with a clean sweep, collecting all 105 points on offer. He was trailed by Adriaan Nel with 96 points and Erik Krugell with 90, both maintaining consistency across all three rounds.

Senior Max followed with equally tight racing. James van den Heever emerged on top after winning all three heats, finishing on 105 points. Dylan Zandberg placed second with 91, while Toni Rust took third with 89.

Mini Max saw another clean performance, this time from Cecil Koorts. He dominated the category with a perfect 105 points, followed by Joubert Esbach on 96 and Jakobus Retief with 87.

In the Mini Rok Under-10 division, young Miko Botha claimed all three heats to secure first place with 105 points. Milla Botha followed on 96, ahead of Francois Gouws, placed third with 60 after failing to finish the opening heat.

Micro Max featured only one scorer, Russel Josephat, who completed a faultless run across all three heats to reach 90 points.

In the youngest category, Bambino, Rocco van Eeden also claimed an unbeaten streak to secure 105 points. He was closely followed by Zian Nel on 96 and Willem Retief on 90. All three racers demonstrated strong form as the season enters its final stages.

The national karting championship consists of multiple legs throughout the year, with cumulative points determining the overall standings.

Speaking to this publication, tournament steward and NMSF secretary general Derek Jacobs confirmed that the sixth and final leg is expected to be decisive in crowning the season’s champions.

“The final round will be held in September in Swakopmund,” he said.
