Another first for coach Robin

Pioneering sports scientist and coach Robin du Toit, who became the first Namibian coach to win a world championship in strength sports earlier this year and has earned multiple championship trophies including continental and world championships, recently guided Nadine Cramwinckel, a standout athlete from the Netherlands, through an extraordinary journey.Nadine, who has been training and competing for ArtisticFit for over two years, became the first Dutch woman to qualify for the Static Monsters World Championship.Nadine’s preparation was fraught with challenges. In April, she began experiencing severe dizziness and fatigue, which led to a diagnosis of pernicious anaemia (Addison-Biermer disease), an autoimmune condition that impairs vitamin B12 and iron absorption. Nadine was on the verge of a blood transfusion and had to undergo iron infusions and B12 injections during her competition prep. A recent gastric endoscopy revealed signs of gastric intestinal metaplasia, further complicating her condition and requiring ongoing monitoring.Resilience, determinationDespite these obstacles and family pressures to quit, Nadine’s resilience and determination shone through, thanks to Robin’s unwavering support and responsibility for her health.From a field of 70 athletes worldwide in her category starting last October 2023, Nadine made it to the top 15. The world championship this weekend is a significant milestone, with breaking into the top 8 would represent a massive achievement for Nadine.Robin believes that Namibia has tremendous potential to excel in global sports, including strength sports, track and field, and rugby.He emphasises the importance of setting ambitious goals and not placing them on a pedestal, as this can make them seem unattainable. His coaching philosophy has been shaped by mentors such as the late Coenie Prinsloo, who guided him at Windhoek High School; his uncles Sarel and Jan du Toit, who taught discipline and work ethic; his brother Mario whose gift of "The Art of War" influenced his coaching approach; and professional bodybuilder Kai Greene, who has had a massive impact on his mindset.Robin’s achievements and his role in Nadine’s inspiring journey highlight Namibia’s potential for excellence on the world stage. His story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with dedication and resilience, proving that even the highest goals are within reach.
