All systems go for Salute Boxing

Salute Boxing Academy representative Smokey Hilongwa has reassured boxing fans that their boxers will be ready to entertain at their big bonanza slated for Helao Nafidi on 20 December.

Hilongwa, as a former amateur and professional boxer, said he has assessed the boxers who will be in action and he is satisfied with their workouts so far.

“We have been assessing the boxers and they look good in the gym.

“As the days are approaching, we have also done some research on their opponents and that is why they are sparring against opponents with similar styles,” said Hilongwa.

The boxing stable will honour President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and the event is intended to become an annual fixture.

Namibian flyweight prospect Fillemon Nghutenanye will headline the event against Ramel Macado Junior of the Philippines.

The two will trade leather with Nghutenanye launching a second challenge at winning the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global title.

Nghutenya told Sport Wrap he is happy with his progress in the gym.

“I am proud that the boxing stable has given me such an opportunity and I will grab it with both hands.

“I can assure you that I am ready and have been waiting for this fight for some time now.

“It is a bout that I need to win and I will make sure that I make the country and Madame President proud,” said Nghutenanye.

Nghutenanye will go into the fight with a record of 13 professional wins, two draws and one loss in 16 professional fights.

He comes up against Macado, a man with 10 wins and a single draw, while losing only one fight in his professional career.

Exciting undercard

Namibian welterweight Abed Shikongo will face Simon Dladla of South Africa in an international catchweight fight over 8 rounds, since the visitor fought mostly at the super welterweight limit.

At super middleweight, former WBO Africa champion and world title contender Walter Kautondokwa will be a drawcard when he faces Kudakwache Banda of Malawi over 8 rounds.

Kautondokwa, “The Executioner”, still holds a professional record of 19-3 (18 knockouts) and brings a proven reputation as a knockout specialist at the continental level.

Veteran Anthony Jarmann (18-7-1; 11 KOs) and Otja Tjihero (0-1) will square off in a cruiserweight bout over 4 rounds.

The unpredictable crowd favourite Nathanael Kakololo (16-7-2; 6 KOs) is also part of the card as he comes up against Josef Abel (4-6) in a lightweight bout, while Kareb Shitana (6-2, 5 KOs) takes on the 40-year-old former WBO African champion Vikapita Meroro (30-20; 15 KOs) in a cruiserweight fight over 10 rounds.

In an international flyweight bout, Immanuel Josef (17-4-1; 7b KOs) is set to battle Zolile Miya of South Africa (10-10-1; 6 KOs) over 8 rounds.

The 22-year-old super flyweight prospect Jonathan Kasheeta (8-1; 2 KOs) will be in action against Tanzania’s Nassoro Ndame for a WBO Youth international title over 10 rounds.

In a junior welterweight fight, Mervin Nguno will be up against Frela Johannes over six rounds, while Simon Angula and David Shinuna will square off in a lightweight fight over 8 rounds.

Jonas Erastus will battle Elias Moongela in a flyweight national title over 8 rounds, while Tomas Shifiona and Herman Johnny face off in a featherweight bout over 4 rounds.
