Afrocat Beach Volleyball League returns for third season
Beach volleyball
Afrocat Sports Club’s Beach Volleyball League served off for its third season at A. Shipena Secondary School on Wednesday and will run until 23 November in Windhoek.
The league features over 50 teams competing across the men’s and women’s Open sections, the two-a-side mixed section, and the junior two-a-side categories for boys and girls in the U13, U15 and U17 age groups.
Organisers say it is a developmental competition aimed at promoting beach volleyball, especially among younger players and underrepresented groups, while offering competitive exposure.
The opening matches saw four encounters in the U15 junior section, with all winners taking straight sets against their opponents.
Opening matches
Siselu Tuakala and Baivindo Vicudissa drew first blood, winning 2-0 against the pair of Joseph Joseph and Joseph Ngenokesho.
Sam Shivute and Kapeke Nguvauva took two sets with no reply from Jacob Matheus and Josephat Junias, but later lost by the same margin to Heike Aipinge and Enias Mwadhina.
The duo of Simon Angula and Adam Ssali tallied two-nil over Marcello Ihalwa and Abel Lukas.

Matchdays
League coordinator Aloisius ‘Coach C’ Ishitile said the league matches will be played on Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as Saturdays and Sundays.
“The senior men’s and women’s Open section matches will be played next Wednesday, with the league’s official opening scheduled for 18 October,” he said.
Ishitile said the opening matches were a good start to the season, with more thrilling matches to come in the upcoming rounds.
He admitted they are running a tight ship, but their priority remains giving opportunities to younger players, with consideration of their academic commitments.
“We have started with the junior section to give our youngsters ample opportunities to compete before their examination. We are aiming to fit in more junior matches before 18 October,” he said.
“At Afrocat Sports Club, our goal is to bring joy to the court, drive development and make beach volleyball the number one sport in Katutura, and ultimately, the country.
“We would like to extend gratitude to Namibia Beach Volleyball Hub, Pupkewitz Megatech and Dynapharm Namibia for their generous sponsorship of the league.”
Ishitile also confirmed that the league has reached a record of over 50 entries of participating teams, surpassing the inaugural season of fewer than 20 entries in 2023 and last year’s edition of over 30 teams that took part.
