Nadawo unveils new brand and peer support office for women with disabilities

The Namibian Association of Differently Abled Women (Nadawo) launched its new brand identity and peer support office in Windhoek on Thursday, marking a significant step for disability rights in Namibia.

Officiated by Nadawo patron Alexia Manombe-Ncube, the event spotlighted the ongoing discrimination faced by women with disabilities, particularly in rural areas. She called for urgent awareness campaigns and stronger advocacy efforts.

“Inclusion remains incomplete if women with disabilities are not at the table when national issues are discussed,” Manombe-Ncube said. “This facility is more than a building; it’s a promise of support, empowerment and dignity.”

She also challenged the accessibility of public services for women with disabilities, questioning whether survivors of gender-based violence can access police and support systems independently and confidentially.

The new peer support office will offer trauma-informed counselling and assistance to survivors of gender-based violence, staffed by peer counsellors with lived experience.

The initiative is supported by the EU, the ministry of gender equality, and the UN Population Fund.

As guests toured the facility, Nadawo’s relaunch reaffirmed its mission: a Namibia where all women, regardless of ability, live with dignity, safety and voice.
