Woman swindled out of N$780 000 in banking scam

A 51-year-old woman from Walvis Bay has been robbed of a staggering N$777 568.23 after falling victim to a fraudulent online banking scam.
The incident occurred on Monday, 10 March, via Bank Windhoek’s internet banking platform.
According to the Namibian Police, the suspect allegedly impersonated a Bank Windhoek official and contacted the victim, misrepresenting the bank to obtain her confidential banking details.
Shortly after providing the information, the complainant realised that a large sum of money had been fraudulently transferred from her account.
At this stage, no arrests have been made, and none of the stolen funds have been recovered.
