Windhoek honours children at annual candle-lighting ceremony

Windhoek deputy mayor Albertina Amutenya delivered the keynote address at the Worldwide Candle Lighting Ceremony on Sunday evening.
The City of Windhoek hosted the Children Memorial and Candle Lighting Ceremony 2025 at the Children’s Memorial, Gammams Cemetery, as part of a global observance honouring children who passed away before the age of 21.
In her address, Amutenya reflected on compassion, remembrance and the collective responsibility to protect and nurture children. She also unveiled a memorial plaque bearing the names of children who were lost too soon.
Councillors, families and community members gathered in solidarity, lighting candles as a symbol of love, hope and remembrance.
