Windhoek High School’s board has strongly denied claims that its legal challenge against the appointment of a new principal is driven by racial motives, insisting that its concerns lie solely with procedural irregularities.In a letter addressed to parents and guardians, the board said it had initiated legal proceedings to ensure compliance with the Basic Education Act, which requires school boards to be meaningfully consulted in key staffing decisions.“Our concern is with the process, not with any individual,” the letter, issued today, stated. “We deeply regret that public discussion has, in some instances, mischaracterised the school board’s objection as being personal or racially motivated. This is incorrect and wholly contrary to the values of inclusivity and integrity that Windhoek High School stands for.”Correspondences seen by Namibian Sun indicate that the board also questioned the suitability of Theo Nuugulu, the successful candidate for the job, saying his 61% score from the interview was not convincing that he was the right man for the job. Nuugulu has already resigned from his position at Okahandja Secondary School, as he prepared to start his new job on 6 May.- STAFF REPORTER
