Windhoek cracks down on illegal electrical wiring

The City of Windhoek has announced a campaign to remove illegal and unauthorised electrical wiring. The campaign starts in September. The initial focus areas include Otjomuise, Okuryangava, Havana, Hakahana and Goreangab.

The campaign follows a rise in illegal and unsafe electrical connections in several informal settlements. Illegal connections are not only unlawful but also extremely dangerous, the municipality warned. Over the past five years, more than eight people have died, while numerous others have been injured due to electrocution and fires linked to illegal electrical installations.
