Walvis Bay tackles illegal land occupations
The Walvis Bay municipal council has approved a relocation intervention to address illegal land occupation in Kuisebmond, Build-Together areas, NHE land and selected backyard dwellings.
Portions of Farm 37 have been set aside for temporary relocation of qualifying households, with an additional area to serve as a reception site. Affected residents will receive permission to occupy certificates for temporary settlement.
The council said only verified occupants will qualify and illegal structures will be removed if not voluntarily dismantled. The municipality also approved 80 temporary workers to support enforcement.
Officials stressed the process is a temporary measure and does not replace the official housing waiting list.
