Tribal tension grips Otjinene

Tribal confrontations broke out early this morning in Otjinene village in Omaheke Region, with Ovaherero community members allegedly setting fire to trade stalls belonging to Aawambo, Ovazemba, and other non-Ovaherero vendors.

The unrest follows a violent altercation last Thursday, in which a local Omuherero man died after being involved in a fight with five Aawambo men. The suspects have since been arrested and were scheduled to appear in court today.

Tensions in the village have escalated since the incident, with members of non-Ovaherero tribes reportedly being warned to vacate Otjinene.

Police have managed to bring the situation under control for the time being. Otjinene station commander Michael Angula confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
