Training starts for 1 600 army recruits
A total of 1656 recruits officially commenced their military training on Monday at the Namibian Defence Force training facility at Osona near Okahandja.
The occasion marked the official opening of the 18th Recruit Training Intake, presided over by the chief of the Namibian Defence Force, Air Marshal Martin Kambulu Pinehas.
Delivering the keynote remarks, Pinehas expressed gratitude to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for approving the recruitment of new members into the force. He further extended appreciation to the minister of defence, Frans Kapofi, for his continued support to the military.
The 2025 intake comprises 1303 men and 353 women.
Pinehas reminded the recruits that the primary function of the NDF is to defend the territorial integrity and national interests of Namibia.
Additionally, the force may be called upon to assist civil authorities when necessary.
“The expectations of the Namibian Defence Force from every recruit are high,” Pinehas stressed.
“This career demands honour, discipline, loyalty and above all, you may one day be expected to put your life in danger for the sake of the Namibian people.”
Discipline required
He emphasised that the training process is specifically designed to develop resilience in the face of hardship and war, moulding recruits into capable members of the armed forces. “The Namibian Defence Force is the shield of the Republic of Namibia, the pride of our people,” he said.
On matters of discipline, he issued a clear warning that any recruit found using illicit drugs, engaging in romantic or inappropriate relationships during training, or consuming alcohol would be expelled with immediate effect.
Pinehas also addressed the instructors and command staff, urging them to exercise the highest levels of professionalism and confidentiality in the execution of their duties.
