Toilet crisis sparks call to close school

A parent of a learner at Welwitchia Junior Secondary School in Khorixas, Mistake !Hoaeb, has urged the education ministry to temporarily close the school until its toilet facilities are repaired.

"The toilets at both the school and hostel are not functioning properly. The school should be closed so that these issues can be fixed," !Hoaeb told Namibian Sun yesterday.

At the boys' hostel, which accommodates about 110 pupils, only two of the five toilets are reportedly functioning properly. Pupils have access to only one functioning shower, sources said.

Girls, meanwhile, have reportedly been forced to flush toilets manually using containers of water due to malfunctioning facilities.

The school currently accommodates around 664 learners.
