Students protest IOL policy

SHORT NEWS

The Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso), together with students from the Institute for Open Learning (IOL), staged a protest in Windhoek yesterday against the institution’s decision not to mark some exams. The decision was made after alleged problems with IOL’s online ID verification system, which reportedly disadvantages students without high-quality camera phones.

Nanso spokesperson Jessy Abraham said IOL’s rules do not specify image quality requirements beyond clarity and described the decision as unfair. He urged the institution to review its policy and ensure all students are treated equally. He said around 100 learners are affected, with some having been asked to sit supplementary exams without receiving their original results.
