SHORTS: Ngurare steps in as vendors raise alarm over roadworks
Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has stepped in to address concerns raised by street vendors affected by ongoing roadworks along Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road, previously called Monte Cristo Road, leading to the Havana four-way intersection.
Ngurare on Thursday last week met with officials from the City of Windhoek, the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Works and Transport following a letter from the vendors outlining how construction activities were disrupting their livelihoods.
The City of Windhoek reported that a meeting was held with the vendors on Monday last week, during which they expressed satisfaction with the City’s new consultative approach, in collaboration with the Ongos contractor.
Ngurare emphasised that development must always consider the needs and voices of affected communities. He commended the City for its efforts to improve infrastructure in informal settlements and urged officials to prioritise residents’ interests. The prime minister also called on the relevant ministries to closely monitor the project until its completion.
