SHORT NEWS: Tour guides rescue 7 after emergency plane landing in Namib Desert
Two tour guides, Juandre Gouws and Luciano Kooitjie, became unexpected heroes after they travelled through the night to rescue six tourists and a pilot who made an emergency landing in the Namib Desert late Tuesday evening. The group was located near Meob Bay, about 200 kilometres south of Walvis Bay, between the coastal settlement and the abandoned diamond mining outpost of Grillenberger. All seven individuals were safely brought to Walvis Bay and taken to hospital for medical assessment. Kooitjie said the rescue mission was not easy, as strong winds in the dunes made navigation challenging. The cause of the emergency landing has not yet been confirmed, but authorities are investigating the incident.
