SHORT NEWS: Nanso says 2025 results reflect measured progress

The Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) has described the 2025 NSSCO and NSSCAS examination results as reflecting “measured progress alongside dangerous systemic regression.” Addressing a press conference at Acacia High School yesterday, Nanso secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, Lavinia T. Leonard, said the AS qualification rate improved from 29.5% in 2024 to 36% in 2025, benefiting 13 921 learners. However, she noted that 64%, or 24 771 learners, remain excluded from higher education. Leonard said full-time enrolment declined by 5.1% while part-time candidature increased by 9.8%. She described the trend as “a system that recycles failure.” Although AS enrolment grew by 21.7%, pass rates dropped to 70%, which Nanso attributed to unfunded expansion. The organisation also criticised the absence of disability data, arguing that inclusion cannot be claimed without proper measurement, and called for urgent, adequately funded reforms.
