SHORT NEWS: Namibia records weakest growth since 2018
Namibia’s economic growth slowed sharply to 1.6% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, the weakest expansion since 2018, according to a review by FNB Namibia.
The figure reflects a steep slowdown from 2.8% growth in the first quarter of 2025 and 3.3% in the same period last year. The review noted that growth was broad-based, with most sectors under pressure. Mining was the only industry to record improved performance, posting 2.7% growth compared to the previous year. Construction also registered modest gains at 4.9%. By contrast, wholesale and retail trade grew by 5.2%, down from 9.1% in the second quarter of 2024, while transport slowed dramatically to 1.1%, compared with 11.9% a year earlier.
