SHORT NEWS: Man arrested for cultivating cannabis in Ohangwena

Tuyeimo Haidula
A 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after police discovered a cannabis plantation at Oipapakane village in the Ohangwena region. Ohangwena police crime and investigation coordinator Deputy Commissioner Melanie Mbuuru said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation that uncovered 12 cannabis plants weighing 55 grams, with an estimated street value of N$550. Mbuuru said the suspect, a Namibian male residing at Oipapakane, was charged under Section 2(a) of the Abuse of Dependence-Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act, Act 41 of 1971, for dealing in drugs. He is expected to appear before the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court this week.

The case is being treated as a state matter.
