SHORT NEWS: Govt warns public against abusing national symbols
The government has warned the public against using the Namibian National Anthem for entertainment on social media, following a surge of TikTok videos showing people dancing to it. Officials said the anthem is a sacred national symbol and must be treated with utmost respect. The information ministry reminded citizens that disrespecting or misusing national symbols is a criminal offence under the National Symbols Act of 2018, punishable by a fine of up to N$50 000, five years in prison, or both.
