SHORT NEWS: Arts group launches 16 Days of Activism Against GBV
The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) launched its nationwide 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign in Okahandja yesterday. Supported by the German Embassy, Orange Babies and UNFPA/HISA, the initiative aims to raise awareness, engage communities and provide essential services. This year’s theme, “Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” will be carried through activities in Okahandja, Usakos, Omaruru, Karibib, Windhoek (Otjomuise and Katutura), Keetmanshoop and Rehoboth. At the launch, Okahandja Deputy Mayor Akser Aupindi described the campaign as “a call to action.” At the same time, German Ambassador Thorsten Hutter emphasised the global urgency of addressing gender-based violence. Community members also received free HIV testing, blood pressure checks and counselling through the Walvis Bay Corridor Group mobile clinic. The campaign runs from 18 November to 04 December, with all events free and open to the public.
