SHORT NEWS: Amupanda to address National Assembly in Oshindonga
Affirmative Repositioning (AR) leader Job Amupanda has formally notified the National Assembly secretariat that he will pose his questions in Oshindonga during Tuesday’s session, in line with parliamentary rules. His fellow AR lawmaker, Vaino Hangula, will serve as his English translator. In neighbouring South Africa, where English remains dominant, the post-apartheid parliament has increasingly embraced indigenous languages to reflect the country’s linguistic diversity. Similarly, in Namibia, lawmakers are permitted to use their vernaculars in the chamber, but only if translation arrangements have been made in advance.
