SHORT NEW: Luvindao confirms measles outbreak in Opuwo
The Ministry of Health and Social Services has confirmed a measles outbreak in Opuwo District, Kunene Region, after 10 out of 20 suspected cases tested positive. Health minister Esperance Luvindao said all patients are in stable condition and no deaths have been recorded. According to national guidelines, confirmation of two or more measles cases constitutes an outbreak. The ministry has launched an emergency vaccination campaign. As of 12 September, 1 525 children had been immunised, with a district-wide campaign set for 17 September to 3 October, targeting over 28 000 children between six months and 15 years. Parents and caregivers are urged to ensure children are vaccinated and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, rash, cough, or red eyes appear.
