Shiweda relatives protest against suspect’s bail

Tensions were high at the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday as relatives of the late control prosecutor Justine Shiweda held a peaceful protest against the bail bid of accused Petrus Shikwaya.

Family representative Elizabeth Nuukala handed over a petition to the prosecutor, detailing their objections to bail. In the submission, the family highlighted the brutal nature of the killing and warned that releasing the accused could place witnesses at risk, including themselves, as well as Shiweda’s children.

The family said granting bail would also undermine justice and the seriousness of a case that has shaken Namibia’s legal fraternity.
