Shino replaced as petroleum commissioner
The energy ministry has removed Maggy Shino as petroleum commissioner and appointed deputy director of Petroleum Exploration and Production Aune Amutenya as her replacement in an acting capacity.
In a statement, energy minister Modestus Amutse announced that Amutenya's appointment took effect on 2 June under the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act of 1991.
The ministry said the appointment was made to ensure continuity in the administration of Namibia's rapidly growing oil and gas sector.
Amutenya previously served as deputy director of petroleum exploration and production and now assumes responsibility for overseeing the country's petroleum regulatory functions at a time of heightened activity in the sector.
Shino’s position has been under scrutiny since last year after allegations that a presidential moratorium on oil agreements was violated. This includes the renewal of an expired petroleum exploration licence allegedly without the required approval – a controversy that ultimately led to the dismissal of former energy minister Natangwe Ithete. - STAFF REPORTER
