SHARING EARLY CHRISTMAS CHEER: Francis Godenschweig is the driving force behind the Cradle of Hope Foundation, a local initiative focused on feeding children and supporting vulnerable mothers in the DRC area of Swakopmund.

“I grew up in a home where sharing was everything,” Godenschweig says. “Helping others is just how life should be.” The foundation operates a soup kitchen in the DRC, feeding children every second Saturday. It also hosted its first Christmas party on Saturday, serving over 170 children with food and a small present.

One of the foundation’s biggest goals is to open a shelter for pregnant girls and women who have been abused. “It’s heartbreaking to see expectant mothers abandoned and without support,” Godenschweig explains. The shelter would offer safe accommodation, skills training and guidance on caring for their babies or placing them for adoption.

The foundation also runs a 'Meal in a Jar' project, providing layered bottles of noodles, lentils and soup to mothers and children attending the kitchen.

Francis encourages the community to get involved: financially, through donations of food or clothing, or by volunteering.
