Rössing Foundation aids malaria fight
NEWS IN SHORT
The health and social services ministry has received essential equipment from the Rössing Foundation to support Namibia’s fight against a malaria outbreak. The outbreak, declared in December 2024, has affected all ten malaria-endemic regions due to increased mosquito breeding after good rains.
Health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula highlighted that response efforts are ongoing, with various stakeholders assisting in controlling the spread. The Rössing Foundation's donation includes 150 spray pumps, 1 200 long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets, and medical equipment for the Olukupa Health Clinic in the Oshikoto Region.
“These items will greatly enhance our national efforts to combat malaria, which remains a serious public health threat,” Shangula said during the handover ceremony.
