Prison break teens back behind bars
NEWS IN SHORT
All 11 teenage pre-trial inmates, aged between 14 and 17, who escaped from the Oluno Correctional Services facility in the Oshana region on Monday have been re-arrested, the Namibian Police have confirmed.
Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, head of the region's community policing sub-division, on Monday night said nine were arrested in Oshana and Ohangwena. The other two were apprehended at Onkakolo in the Oshikoto region.
“They are all back in custody. Thanks to the general public for providing accurate information," Aiyambo said, adding: "Job well done indeed."
The group included seven accused of rape and four others facing housebreaking charges. Their escape triggered a region-wide search and raised serious concerns over security at the correctional facility.
