President confers state funeral on Hishoono

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has conferred a state funeral on the late Mathias Kanana Hishoono in recognition of his contribution to Namibia’s liberation struggle and national development.
The honour was granted in terms of Article 32 of the Namibian Constitution, read together with Section 3(1) of the Conferment of National Honours Act of 2012, the Presidency said.
Hishoono, a veteran of Namibia’s liberation struggle, died on 14 January 2026 at the age of 89. He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 24 January 2026, at the Eenhana Shrine in the Ohangwena Region.
