Potato jackpot
Hardap farmer Lingani Sibalatani of Staamland Farm harvested 30 tonnes of potatoes this year, up from 25 tonnes in 2024.
She told Namibian Sun that she started with 8 000 seedlings as a trial in 2025. This year, she planted 35 000 seedlings and has already supplied 2 000 10 kg bags of potatoes to vendors and restaurants in the region.
The farm also produces cabbage, sweet potatoes, rape, onions and garlic, and employs eight permanent workers and eight seasonal workers.
Sibalatani plans to expand the farm by 10 hectares annually and is seeking support to acquire equipment and storage facilities to improve production and contribute to Namibia’s food security.
