New Unam council must protect public trust

The University of Namibia (Unam) Council has begun its tenure, with education minister Sanet Steenkamp calling for strong governance, accountability and a clear distinction between council oversight and university management.

"It's all about public trust," the minister said yesterday. "Because you have been entrusted with the governance of an institution that belongs not only to those studying and working here but to the Namibian nation."

Steenkamp urged the newly appointed members to provide strategic leadership, strengthen oversight and safeguard the university’s integrity and sustainability.
