Namibia charts green skies at landmark aviation workshop
NEWS IN SHORT
The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a high-level workshop focused on sustainable aviation, in partnership with the European Union and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The three-day event, running from 16 to 18 July at NCAA’s Windhoek headquarters, brings together stakeholders from across Namibia’s aviation landscape, including government officials, airline operators, academia and industry players, to discuss global strategies for cutting carbon emissions in the aviation sector.
The workshop forms part of the EU-CORSIA Africa and Caribbean Project, which seeks to bolster the technical capacities of developing nations in carbon dioxide (CO2) mitigation under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
Delivering the keynote address at the opening, NCAA executive director Toska Sem said the workshop is more than just a technical session.
“This gathering is not merely a technical exchange. It is a strategic opportunity for Namibia to transform international climate commitments into locally actionable frameworks that foster sustainable aviation, green fuel innovation, and energy independence,” Sem said.
