Namib Mills strike enters second week
SHORT NEWS
The Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (Naretu)-led strike at Namib Mills entered its second week on Monday, with workers accusing some members of the public of spreading misinformation.
Striking workers, who have remained camped outside the company’s head offices in Windhoek, were seen chanting “down fake news”.
Namib Mills produces several staple household brands, making the dispute one of the most closely watched labour standoffs in the manufacturing sector.
The company implemented a lockout last week Monday, a day before the strike officially commenced under the leadership of the union.
Despite a conciliation meeting convened by the labour ministry on Friday, no resolution has been found to date, with both parties confirming that positions remain unchanged.
Namib Mills has not issued any update on production or distribution impacts.
