Mum pleads with police to solve son's case
SHORT NEWS
During a public engagement on crime prevention held in Walvis Bay on Tuesday, with Namibian Police Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo in attendance, Helaria Hauwanga, a Walvis Bay resident and grieving mother, told the police chief that police officers have neglected their duties and failed to deliver justice in her son’s case.
Hauwanga explained that she lost her son three years ago and that despite numerous visits to the police station, no arrests have been made.
In response, Shikongo called for immediate action. Hauwanga’s son reportedly died in 2022 after attending a friend’s birthday party. She claims that two separate post-mortems were conducted, both producing conflicting results, yet the case remains unresolved.
Shikongo directed Erongo regional police Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona and Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu to take up the matter and provide him with a full report on the details of the case. He further ordered that the case docket be located and the investigation prioritised without delay.
